Airbnb Introduces ‘Reserve Now, Pay Later’ for U.S. Travelers
August 13, 2025
Airbnb has rolled out a new payment option in the U.S. that allows guests to reserve a property without paying upfront. The “Reserve Now, Pay Later” feature applies to listings with “flexible” or “moderate” cancellation policies, giving travelers more time to finalize plans and payments.
Under the flexible policy, guests can cancel up to 24 hours before check-in without a fee. The moderate policy allows no-fee cancellations until five days before check-in. Guests using the new feature must pay the full booking amount before the property’s free cancellation period ends, with Airbnb sending payment reminders in advance.
The company has offered delayed payment options before, including its 2018 “Pay part now, part later” feature and a 2023 partnership with Klarna to allow payments in four installments over six weeks.
Airbnb says a recent survey of travelers found that 55% preferred flexible payment options, and 42% reported losing out on bookings while coordinating payments with others.
