Spotify Raises Premium Subscription Prices Across Global Markets Amid Financial Struggles
August 4, 2025
Spotify is increasing the cost of its premium subscription in multiple international markets, the company announced Monday. Users across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region will see their monthly fees rise by €1, from €10.99 to €11.99, over the next month.
Subscribers in affected regions will receive email notifications outlining the new pricing structure and timeline for the change.
This marks Spotify’s latest effort to boost revenue following a disappointing earnings report last week, in which the company fell short of expectations and saw its stock drop 11%. On the earnings call, CEO Daniel Ek acknowledged the platform’s underperformance, stating he was “unhappy with where [Spotify is] today,” though he reaffirmed confidence in the company’s long-term goals.
Spotify made a similar move in the U.S. last year, raising premium prices to $11.99 — the second increase in just 12 months at the time.
Despite the negative earnings news, investor sentiment rebounded slightly after the price hike announcement, with Spotify shares climbing 5% in premarket trading.
The company continues to explore paths to profitability as it navigates a competitive and shifting landscape in both music streaming and audio content more broadly.
